Summary of Pentateuch
Summery of the Pentateuch
Rev. Fr. Tapon Rozario
.
The Book of Genesis
In he book of Genesis I have moved from the moment of creation through
the history of sin to the call of Abraham, of Isaac, of Jacob, and finally
Joseph and tribes in Egypt. In this story I have come to know about God who is
the creator, judge, and redeemer. All through the reading of the Genesis, I
experienced God who accepted the weaknesses of men and continued to love. He is
the God who guides and directs, who is able to bring good out of evil. Genesis
is only the beginning of the story, the beginning of the acts of God. The story
continues not only through out the Old Testament and New Testament is in our own lives and our world.
The Book of Exodus
As I was going through of this book I found that the “Exodus” or the
going out from the Egypt lies at the very heart of Israel’s faith experience.
Yahweh without the exodus is not Yahweh at all. The Exodus identifies not only
Yahweh but also Israel. I came to know that the going out is popular
literature. This literature indicates the fundamental experience of God’s power
and grace and moral purposes. He is always faithful to His promises. He cares
the oppressed and sets them free. In present day we are also chosen people but
some times we are so busy that we can’t realize the love of God. He wants us to
be his instruments to carry out His mission. The main lesson from this book I
found that God takes the first initiative to make a relationship with his
chosen people.
The Book of Leviticus
After reading the book of Leviticus, I have found that this is the Book
about the holiness. There are many teachings, instructions and directions.
While reading I experienced the holiness of God that means he is wholeness and
the people are called to be holy and become whole like Him. The Wholeness
describes the life of God. Wholeness describes our lives when we reflect the
life of God. As I was reading this book, I am reminded that every thing fits
together in proper order. The wholeness reflects the oneness of God who called
the to be holy. Also I learned what is the role of the priest during the
liturgical celebration. Priest should be holy and totally committed to God’s
service. The life of the holiness is a life being lived today in the Eucharist
The Book
of Numbers.
The Book of Numbers is the Fourth Book of the Pentateuch. It contains
two censuses of the Israelites and of the Levites. It also include lists of
various kinds, some numbers. A list of the princes who assist with the census,
as list of gifts brought for the dedication of the altar, list of offering to
be brought for feast days and festivals. As I was reading this book the name
“Numbers” fits some of the content. The story in numbers begins in the desert
of Sinai. Just after the covenant event and ends forty years later with the
waiting on the plains of Moab to enter the Promised Land. The main thing I came
to know the availability of God. Yahweh was always present to the chosen
people. Remarkable thing is that Yahweh did not forget His promises. He was
faithful all the time. I also came to know the result of the unfaithful man.
Though Moses and Aaron were the holy men but they doubted about the work of
God. As a result they could not able to see the Promised Land. This Book taught
me I should all ways keep the deep faith in God. By faith in God I will be
saved.
The Book of Deuteronomy
As I was reading
and reflecting on the book, I came to know the wonderful work of the Lord for
His people. His chosen people were delivered from the oppression of the
Egyptians by the helping of the mighty hand of God. But yet the chosen people
did not belief in Him went far away. Here the sinful nature of men is revealed.
As my reflection was going on, I my self was thinking of myself, if I would be
there, what I would have done, I also would do like them. Since I am also human
being. The main lesson I Came to know that God’s blessing is for all the
sinners as well as for the good people too. God always wants them to love Him
with whole hearted so that in returned they may have life and continued
blessing. There are many lessons that can be drowned from this book. This book
can be used as a directory for the spiritual growth.
